Boscombe Food Network Meeting: Get Involved with Food in Your Local Community
A national campaign is set to take over Boscombe to increase both the availability and consumption of veg and promote a healthier lifestyle. Delivered by the Sustainable Food City Partnership and together with Bournemouth Borough Council, the local veg campaign will focus on the Boscombe area and will aim to build positive food culture within the community. The campaign will encourage and enable everyone to increase their vegetable consumption, and will allow people to make better food choices for life.
The campaign covers everything vegetable related from growing to food waste, ensuring everyone is confident with food. Giving others the tools to make positive food choices will help improve overall health and wellbeing.
The local community can get involved by looking out for the campaign online, and using #VegPowerBoscombe to get involved, share updates and win one of six great prizes. There are also a number of cookery workshops taking place well into 2019. On Boscombe high street there will be new veg planters installed, where the community can care for this garden and lend a hand. Those eligible for Health Start Vouchers will be provided with free veg every week. You may also be interested in Boscombe Community Fridge at Boscombe Library, where you can donate and accept food.
Businesses are also getting in on the veg action. You can become a business ambassador for one of six social media campaigns and help promote the Veg Power message. Connect your business to the local people by volunteering one of your chefs to deliver a cookery workshop. Or, adopt one of the new high street vegetable beds, watering it, caring for it and encouraging your customers and clients to take produce away with them. The campaign is also connecting businesses to assist with collecting and redistributing surplus food.
The first of the Boscombe Food Network Meetings will take place at AECC University College on Monday 19 November, 2pm. Come along to learn more about food, health and wellbeing in Boscombe and how you can get involved. Discover how you can help bring health and wellbeing to Boscombe by getting involved in food in your local community and building on your social responsibility.
